Coaching clinic Weds. 3/30 For all youth sports coaches (and anyone who might be interested in coaching this fall):Cheltenham Sports is proud to be a part of the nationally recognized Positive Coaching Alliance, which conducts workshops for youth sports coaches and parents. Please come to a workshop on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Rowland Community Center, 400 Myrtle Ave., 19012. You will join with coaches in the Cheltenham Little League for training in how to become a “Double-Gold” Coach, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports to kids. We strongly encourage all of our coaches (whether travel soccer, intramural soccer, basketball or roller hockey) to participate in this workshop. Best of all it is FREE to you and is sure to make you a better coach and individual who is involved with educating the kids in the Cheltenham area. Please e-mail Greg Capps by March 25 at president@cheltenhamsports.org to let him know that you will be attending. * * * * * Additional coach training for soccer We expect to schedule an E license weekend training course in Cheltenham this summer; it is tentatively set for July 22 through 24. Please save the date! The E license covers skills and techniques for teaching soccer to boys and girls of all ages. You will get many good ideas and become a better coach by taking this course. No background in soccer or previous coaching experience is required. More information will follow. * * * * * Intramural Soccer coaches of the year Each year, the intramural program recognizes coaches whose dedication, creativity and positive attitude significantly enriched the intramural soccer program. Based on recommendations, the coaches below were named coaches of the year: Brian Fishman Jeff Curry Howard Schatz Congratulate them the next time you see them!* * * * * Soccer age-group coordinators needed! Interested in helping organize your child's age group? While many coordinators from last year will be returning, more volunteers are needed. Cheltenham Sports is a non-profit group entirely run by volunteers. Please help! Email aaronrubinpersonal@gmail.com or call 215-481-0110 for more information. * * * * * Fall soccer registration Online registration is now open. Tentative schedules and summer practice information will be posted on the website soon. Summer practices will start the week of August 8; they will start at 6:30 p.m. one night per week for each age group (the same night each week) and run for 4 weeks. All practices are optional -- it is ok if you are on vacation and miss some of the practices. The fall soccer season will start Sat. Sept. 10 (after Labor Day). Please register as soon as possible so you can avoid late fees and make sure your child has a spot in the program; most age groups fill up. All children who sign up for travel (competitive) soccer but don't end up making the team are guaranteed space in the intramural program. Thanks for your support -- we're all looking forward to another safe and successful soccer season!
